Summary of Responsibilities:

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates forElevator Inspector with the Building Code Division.

General Description
Inspections in elevator construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Primary Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent workingin this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work ofthe job as necessary.

Conducts inspections for compliance with codes and regulations governing the construction,alteration, repair and continued operation of new and existing elevators, escalators and lifts.
Observes during stages in construction for possible defects and violations that must becorrected.

Reviews code standards and departmental regulations; reviews and checks blueprints, plans,and sketches associated with a permit in relation to the actual construction, alteration, or repair and recommends changes and improvements when needed.

Confers with contractors, engineers, property owners, and other interested parties; explains andinterprets elevator codes and regulations.

Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports; attends meetings and conferencesconcerned with code enforcement.

Enforces provisions of the Florida Statute 399 and related regulations.

Performs related work as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires four (4) years technical work in the elevator industry or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Must be certified as an ANSI/ASME Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI).
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at time of appointment, andmust obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.

Preferences
Associates or Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or related fieldCertified ElevatorInspector (CEI) credential issued by the State of Florida Department of Business andProfessional Regulation
OSHA Certification
Florida Association of Code Enforcement Officers (FACE)
Fire Safety Inspector Certification
Two (2) years of experience witnessing tests specified in ASME A17.ICSA B44 and ASME A IB
Fluent speaking Spanish and/or Creole
