CET™ Certification Using the Candidate Option
The CET™ Candidate Program is a 4-year self-paced education certification program.
The program is structured to meet Federal Apprenticeship requirements (144 classroom hours/2,000 on-the-job training annually). The program began in 2002 and currently has over 110 technicians enrolled. Each participating candidate must have access to a CET-S to administer the program.
Qualification Requirements for CET™ Candidates
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Approval of completed Candidate Application.
- Annual fee of $125 NAEC member / $525 non-member (does not include coursework)

The Program:
- CET™ Level 1 is the program's Core Curriculum. CET™ Level 1 is the first 4 courses of the program consisting of 11 units and will take approximately 2 years to complete. Most of the 11 units will consist of 3 basic parts: text based workbook, skills verification and web-based courese. The courses can be purchased from Elevator World. Each unit will require successful completion of a Unit Exam. Each Unit Exam will be taken on-line under testing conditions in accordance with NAEC guidelines. The exam will contain multiple-choice questions randomly chosen from the study questions at the end of each chapter of the unit. A student must score 85% of higher to pass the exam. Upon successful completion of all the Unit Exams, all required Skills Verifications, all required Web-Based courses and the CET™ Level 1 Exam the candidate will become an AET™ (Associate Elevator Technician) and receive a certificate.
- CET™ Level 2 is the program's Advanced Curriculum. Level 2 consists of 8 courses and will take approximately 2 years to complete. The courses vary to include text-based, web-based and distance learning courses. The courses can be purchased from Elevator World. Each course will require successful competion of a Unit Exam. Each Unit Exam will be taken on-line under testing conditions in accordance with NAEC guidelines. The exam will contain multiple-choice questions randomly chosen from the study questions at the end of each chapter of the unit. A student must score 85% of higher to pass the exam. Upon successful completion of the advanced curriculum the Candidate will be required to pass a CET Final Exam. The exam will be taken on-line under testing conditions in accordance with NAEC guidelines. A student must score 85% or higher to pass the exam.
- Once a candidate has met all requirements of the program and passed the final exam he will be issued a CET™ card identifying him as a CET™. By December 31st of each year, a CET™ will be required to successfully complete 10 hours of continuing education in order to maintain their certification.
